Journal Entry--May 16
Last week we started a new reading book, Island of the Blue Delphins, by Scott O'Dell. Today's journal assignment is related to that. Here you go!

You are stranded alone on an island that is surrounded by salt water. There are animals on the island, but you have no weapons to hunt them or tools to fish. You have only the clothes on your back. What will you do for food, shelter, fresh water? Be specific.

first i would try to watch all the animals on the island to see what they did, and to see if they had anything i could use for weapons, and then i would try to build a shelter...then i would try to kill the animals then use the weapons to kill more animals, and hope that there would be clean meat on the island...i would probably just eat fish then...hehe, then i would try to make a canoe...like she did, and if i knew how far away another civilized island was, i'd pack a bunch of food, and water, and try to get to the island. if i succeeded, i would take everyone i found back to the island again with me, and we would set up civilization so that that would be one less island that someone could get lost on...yayy!! oh, and if none of this would work...i'd die...

i would try and catch the fish with my own hands. And for shelter i would try to get some wood and string to make a hut and for the roof i would look for some leafs and yeah.To hunt the animals i would make a spear or a bow and arrow. For fresh water i would take the salt water and make a cup and some cloth and some rocks or pebbles.First i put the cloth over the cup and put the pebbles on top of the cloth and scoop the water into the cup with my hands and there you have fresh water.

for food I will look for edible plants to eat. I will try to look for a spring in which I could drink water from. I would look for a tree branch and use it for a spear. By doing so I would have to, sharpen the branch on a rock of some sort then hunt with it. I could make a shelter by collecting some long branches and putting them up against a tree and make a sort of..well, Mr. Longfellow showed us up north for LIFT last year. I sorta can't explain how it looked. Anyway that is how I would survive on an island.
